I recently met UFC fighters Rob Font (#11 Bantamweight) and Calvin Katter (#6 Featherweight) of the New England Cartel. The New England Cartel's mission is simple: bring a championship back to Boston. Rob is facing off against #3 ranked Marlon Moraes on December 19th. I had the chance to ask him a few questions.
Q1: What does it mean to you to represent New England in the Octagon?
Rob Font: It’s huge, it’s an honor. And it’s also a lot of pressure. We got teams like the Red Sox, the Patriots, Bruins and Celtics. We’re just starting, but obviously we got some big shoes to fill. But I think we’re the right guys to attempt this. I’m excited. Right now I’m just taking it day-by-day, fight-by-fight. Keep my head down and just get better so I can bring that belt home as soon as possible.
Q2: What’s your favorite Boston Sports team/player?
Rob Font: Oh man, it’s gotta be the Celtics. And my favorite player… that’s Paul Pierce. Paul Pierce for sure.
Q3: What is the future of New England Cartel?
Rob Font: We got a lot of young, up and coming fighters. Some good prospects that you guys are going to be seeing in the next couple of years… But you know, me and Calvin gotta set the tone, I see us bringing belts back to New England.
Rob Font (17-4) will fight Marlon Moraes (23-7-1) on December 19, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nev. at the UFC APEX on the main card of UFC Vegas 17. Prelims will begin at 3:00 pm EST, with the main card kicking off at 5:00 pm EST, both on ESPN+. Rob Font Vs. Marlon Moraes will be a three-round, bantamweight (135 lbs) bout.
